POSSAGNO AND CANOVA

A most fascinating, not to be missed trip, Possagno is not only an area of breathtaking beauty, but is also home to the Gipsoteca, which presents a definitive overview of the work of renowned sculptor Canova. Within the building that was restored by architect Carlo Scarpa, Canova’s most important “plaster” works are exhibited, giving one an insight into the process of marble sculpting.

Canova’s Tempio is another of Possagno’s wonders that is not to be missed, with its impressive neo-classical architecture reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome.

Canova also designed the Duomo di Treviso’s current facade.

A trip to Maser, Villa Barbaro (see VenetianVillas) is also highly recommended.
